How I read…

The sidebar is a fluid record of what I’m reading, with a hopefully up-to-date book cover at the top for one of the YA or children’s books I’m reading currently. I tend to read several books at once, and if I try a book for a while and it doesn’t grab me I eventually send it back to the library rather than continuing to try to plow through it. Life’s too short and too full of intriguing, engrossing literature to read books that don’t delight me!

In addition to the YA books shown on the sidebar, I read novels and works of non-fiction (mostly about food and cooking!) geared towards adults. At any given time I’m probably in the midst of a book geared towards younger readers, like Shannon Hale’s The Goose Girl, a trashy or fluffy teen book, like Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard, a darker or more serious YA book, like Laurie Halse Anderson’s Speak, a fantasy or sci-fi YA book like Garth Nix’s Sabriel or Conor Kostick’s Epic, a novel geared towards adults, like Jennifer Egan’s The Keep, and maybe a work of non-fiction, like Michael Pollan’s Omnivore’s Dillema. It definitely means that whatever mood I’m in, there’s something I can pick up that will match it!
